I start work for AMSU

It felt a momentous occasion this morning as I dropped my daughter at Nursery and got ready to come to work. I am now full time AMSU!

As I came and sat at my new desk - which was actually my old desk and cheekily asked for an induction tour I realised that the change was more mental and emotional than physical from my perspective. From the members perspective I am hoping to spend this week blitzing all the backlog with requests for the website login, mailbase access and financial paperwork.

I am also hoping that we will be getting a temp PT member of staff to help keep up with requests and queries so that members get what they want when they ask for it!

There's lots of work for me to do and I will blog my initial objectives tomorrow when I have got all the admin sorted.

Right now I have to create a tally chart of who makes who a tea or coffee as I feel AMSU may be charging Bucks for staff time!

This week at the office

I am actually out of "AMSU Hours" (I think they are like clubcard points/tiger tokens or green shield stamps) so I haven't been able to do much this week. However, I start full time in a couple of weeks so should be fine. I have the 24 hour shift of our May Ball to work this weekend so really focused on that at the moment.

The AMSU mailing was a little embarrasing as I seemed to lose my links! I am on attempt number three but I am sure this one works.

One of the projects I will need to undertake is a good list clean of the volunteers database and those people registered on the web site. If you are struggling to log on or know people who have left then please let the office know and we can sort out the problems in one big hit at the end of this month

Weekly Update gets a facelift

After listening to quite a few volunteers I have been working on the weekly update to try and make it more interesting to read and useful. Unfortunately I ran out of time so couldn't get it to it's final stage but hopefully better this week and even better next week.

I need to thank Kris Black for his work helping me with HTML code and dreamweaver and DIV SPANs or something like that. I know that <b> /<b> makes something bold and thats about it!

The hope is that the website + update will be a much more useful and relevant communication tool. There is a lot of work to come on the website from the IT group over the coming months that will simplify navigation, make it look more appealing and have more relevant information.

What is my blog

I hope to blog things we are doing at the office as a communication tool to all our members and volunteers.

I don't know how interesting that will be, but if you see what I/we are up to then then you can comment and I/we can see if we are doing the right sort of things.
